Fred Siwak, President   Les - cropped

A 30-year veteran of the oil and gas industry, Fred Siwak is widely recognized and sought after as an authority in pipeline and facility design and construction, and an expert in inspection and safety practices.

Commencing his affiliation with Black Gold in 1989, Fred amassed extensive and impressive industry knowledge prior to taking on his recent position as President.  From his role as Construction Manager, Integrity Specialist, as well as his responsibility as Design, Construction & Quality Specialist, and Project Execution Coordinator, to various accomplishments as Construction QA Coordinator, Resident Inspector, and Construction Manager on projects for numerous oil and gas companies, Fred’s expertise is comprehensive and proficient.

A skilled supervisor who competently leads teams through concept development and execution on a broad range of projects, Fred values the expertise and input of his team and he appreciates working with a diverse blend of industry experts.  Problem‑solving with an open mind and through experienced and educated collaboration is how he expertly maintains schedules and costs within safety standards and project specifications.

Fred describes himself as firm, fair and consistent.  The people he works with agree. Having built a considerable network of trusting relationships throughout his career, Fred has learned that “everybody is good at something.”  In his words, “we’re nothing without our people,” and Fred is known for going the extra mile to ensure everyone he works with knows their contributions are a valuable part of the project.

 

Les Desi, Vice President Operations

A consummate professional with a wealth of hands-on experience in oil and gas projects inspection and construction, Les Desi has worked with Black Gold since 1989 and recently took over the reigns as VP Operations.

Over his 30+ years in the industry, Les has demonstrated himself to be a trustworthy and hardworking member of the team by helping to build Black Gold’s extensive network of clients and inspections personnel to where it is today.  Providing the best quality service is central to his perspective, and he goes about achieving this with great vigour and discipline.  He is an inspiring and dynamic leader, and his motivation, enthusiasm and wide-ranging experience have made him an expert in the oil and gas projects construction and inspection fields.

With a focus on recruiting and placing exceptional talent, and building strong client relations, Les has a particular aptitude for matching the right personnel with the right projects. His contribution extends to extensive field expertise for which he is often called upon when issues arise or when another perspective is required to expedite the completion of a project.  He is known for consistent and organized communication with Black Gold’s customers and team members, and he prides himself on and values the strong business relationships he has forged over the years.  In his words, “it’s a good day when you manage to talk to all of the people you need to communicate with, and you can tell those calls are appreciated.”

 

Brian Wiber, Construction Manager

As a seasoned Oilfield Consultant, Project Manager and Inspection Services Specialist, Brian has left his mark on multiple pipeline and facility projects over his 40+ years in the oil and gas industry.

Colleagues describe Brian as hard‑working, dedicated and knowledgeable.  With Black Gold since 1999, his civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and construction experience extends to various projects across Western Canada and the NWT. To him, accuracy, following policies and procedures, and managing projects in accordance with drawings and specifications are of paramount importance in completing a project safely and in a timely manner.

Brian is service oriented and diligent in his approach to his work.  Despite his extensive roster of projects, he is most proud of his close working relationships.  He believes there is a measure of satisfaction in always pushing oneself to improve and yet he recognizes the importance of relying on others to get the job done.  To that end, Brian has a strong work ethic and he values honesty and integrity.  He leads by example and works hard to help his team successfully achieve project objectives.
